Saturday Art Program
Miami University has been running the Saturday Art program for the Oxford community for many decades. The teachers for the program are Miami University art education students, enrolled in ART 495 (a required practicum experience prior to student teaching). Teachers decided upon a theme for the program, guiding questions for each of the weeks and then wrote a 6-week unit for the program around the guiding questions. Projects varied between classes. 2D and 3D media were included, vocabulary terms, historical and contemporary artist exemplars, and connections to Ohio visual art standards.
This semester’s theme for Saturday Art was “Heroes.” Students created art in lots of different media while learning about real-life heroes, characteristics of heroes, new art skills, and more!
